Every year, throughout the U.S, local members of NAMI plan and participate in a week long series of events and activities that bring community awareness and education on issues surrounding mental illness. The week long series of events are part of MIAW or Mental illness Awareness Week.
Mental Illness Awareness Week, established by a joint resolution passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by the President, aims to focus attention on equal treatment, increased funding, and research. This year's theme is "Working for Change."
This year I was proud to participate in the MIAW activities of three of my local affiliates in Southeast Pennsylvania.
I have provided information that I gathered of those three events for your enjoyment.
On Sunday October 7th, NAMI Pennsylvania, Montgomery County held its annual MIAW Rally and candlelight vigil at Norristown State Hospital. Click here to read more…..
Tuesday October 9th at the courthouse in West Chester ,members of NAMI PA Chester County, along with other members of Chester County mental health Community, met with our elected County Commissioners . Whereas the Commissioners proclaimed the next 6 days as mental Illness awareness week in Chester County. Click here to see picture of the meeting.
On October 12th, at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown , PA . The NAMI Pennsylvania, Bucks County
Affiliate held a Rally & Candlelight Vigil.
Lasting well into the evening the rally had several guest speakers and musical entertainment.
